frog went a-courting

from songs i like to sing with you by mark adamczyk

about

A traditional children's ballad. Ballads used to be fast-paced songs about romantic adventures. (Now they seem to be just the romance, and always slow. Go figure.) Why not sing of a swashbuckling frog as he courts the mouse of his dreams? Short repeated phrases in a song--"hi diddle-um dee" in this case--can be a point of entry for a young child's singing along.

lyrics

Frog went a-courting, he did ride, hi diddle-um dee!
Oh, frog went a-courting, he did ride to ask Miss Mouse to be his bride.
Sing "Ho" for the tale of the courtly frog, hi diddle-um dee!
