This has to be one of the silliest nursery rhymes to stand the test of time. How many paintings of bovines juxtaposed against waxing (or waning) crescents have been inspired by these lines. Well, here they are again, with the addition of some new rhymes. The mood (get it? m-ooo-d?) of this version also switches back and forth from mildly lighthearted to mildly stressed. (The musical key switches between a major and a minor tonality.) Music can do that: switch modes and moods. Here's an example of such for your child to enjoy.

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon,
The little dog laughed to see such sport and the dish ran away with the spoon.

Hey, Dish! Come back with that spoon!
Can't you see there's a cow on the moon?
She got stuck when she tried to jump.
Now all I see is the cow's rump!
The dog has hiccups, the cat's out of tune!
I need a new dish, I need a new spoon,
And all because of that cow on the moon....
